Idea → Design → Product = Roel
Roel studied Industrial Product Design at Howest and followed it up with a Masterclass in Product Design Engineering. Combining creative ideas with technical finesse? That’s where he shines. He feels right at home in the sweet spot between a napkin sketch and a working prototype.
Always user-first
Before joining MyGrid, Roel worked at several innovation agencies, developing products from early market research to 3D models. What really energised him? Listening to real people and turning their needs into products that actually work. Smart. Simple. Logical. No unnecessary fuss.
The MyGrid connection
In 2022, Roel met Jan, our founder. One conversation about our compact plug-and-play battery, and he was hooked. Roel had solar panels himself and not a lot of space, so the concept instantly clicked.
He helped design the very first ModuleOne prototype. After a few detours, he’s now back at the MyGrid design table, building smarter, better, simpler.
Less is always more
Roel’s the kind of guy who might wake up at 2 a.m. thinking about how to improve a single button. He’s always refining, even when things are already "good enough." Because for him, good enough just isn’t.
Made by... MADE
Roel’s first job at MADE Design & Innovation shaped his entire design philosophy. It wasn’t your average entry-level gig, more like a full-on design bootcamp. That experience? Still worth its weight in gold.
Think big
The Magic of Thinking Big taught Roel that your limits usually aren’t the real problem, your mindset is. Since then, he’s been thinking bigger, dreaming bolder. And it’s paid off in all kinds of unexpected ways. ModuleOne is just one example.
A geek for ease
Geek? Absolutely. Especially when it comes to smart consumer tech that actually helps people. Products that just work, no 300-page manual required. If it’s intuitive and clever, Roel’s all in.
Golf = zen mode
Lately, Roel’s found peace on the golf course. The rhythm, the focus, it’s surprisingly calming. Perfect for someone whose brain usually runs at full speed.
Citytrip junkie
Free weekend? Odds are Roel’s exploring a new city. Fresh stimuli, unfamiliar streets, great architecture, and vibey coffee bars, that’s his creative fuel.
BBQ in polar temperatures? No problem
His guilty pleasure? Barbecue. Doesn’t matter if it’s blazing hot or freezing cold, if there’s fire and something's sizzling on the grill, Roel’s happy. Even if it means wearing snow boots.
